A Built-In Electric Fireplace with Glass on Three Sides

The Amantii TRU-VIEW XT is a built-in electric fireplace with glass on the front and both ends, so the fire can be seen from across the room and from the sides. It is the extra-tall version of Amantii's three-sided TRU-VIEW line: taller glass means the flames fill more of the opening, so it reads more like a traditional firebox than a strip of light. It goes into a framed wall or a peninsula like any built-in, comes in five widths, and the flame runs with or without heat, so it works year round.

Glass on Three Sides, a Corner, or Just the Front

Amantii approves four layouts: a three-sided bay with both ends open, a left corner, a right corner, or front only. Which one you get depends on how the wall is framed around it, so settle it before framing starts. Front only is not a compromise here. At 14 1/4 inches deep, the firebox still has real depth when the ends are closed in.

22 Inches of Glass, Over 6 Inches Taller Than the XL

The standard Amantii TRU-VIEW XL has about 15 5/8 inches of viewing glass. The XT has 22. Both share the same 14 1/4-inch depth, so the difference is all in height: the XT cabinet stands 33 inches tall at every width. Widths run 40, 50, 60, 72 and 88 inches, and the viewing glass is roughly 3 5/8 inches narrower than the cabinet on each size. If your wall can't take the extra height, the XL is the same idea in a shorter frame.

Flame, Lighting and Heat Each Have Their Own Control

The flames mix yellow, orange and red in two flame styles and three speeds. The canopy light above and the ember bed light below are set separately from the flame, so you can keep the fire a natural orange while changing the glow on the media. The heater puts out about 5,000 BTU on high from a standard 120V outlet and can stay off entirely for flame-only nights. Control it from the touch pad, the included thermostatic remote, or Amantii's Wi-Fi app, which also runs the timer and thermostat.

Best for Peninsulas, Corner Walls and Covered Patios

A three-sided fireplace earns its place where people sit beside it, not just in front of it: a peninsula between a kitchen and living room, a corner of an open-plan space, or a covered outdoor room. Where every seat faces one wall, a front-facing built-in does the same job for less.

Plan the Outlet and Overhang Before You Frame

• Power: the cord comes out on the left side and is about 70 7/8 inches long, so put the outlet on that side, within reach. On high heat it draws 12.5 amps, most of a standard 15-amp circuit, so avoid sharing that circuit with other heavy loads.
• Framing: frame to the rough opening in Amantii's manual, not to the cabinet dimensions, and keep the open ends clear of anything that would block the glass.
• Outdoors: Amantii requires an overhang for outdoor installs. Outside, warm air drifts away quickly, so treat the heat as a bonus and buy it for the fire. To keep a whole seating area warm, pair it with an infrared patio heater, which warms people directly instead of the air.
• Thermostat: it can be hardwired to a wall thermostat if you would rather not rely on the remote.
